about

The first Wire Bridge tape release that was in an editon larger than 2 or 3 copies. I think I made as many as 10 of this.
I credited it to 'Wire Bridge' rather than my own name, a fact that I'd forgotten until I scanned the artwork the other day.
At the time of its recording I was working a few days a week in a plant nursery and living in a tiny one bedroom flat up the bad end of Glouchester Street in Christchurch. Harringtons Brewery was just up the road and my garden had more than just veges in it... Most of my spare time was spent drawing or obsessively practicing songs, recording and climbing trees.
My recording set up then was an old Grundig reel to reel machine that whilst not being the '4 track' that it had been advertised as in the classifieds at least enabled one to disengage the erase head with a switch and thus record layers directly on top of each other. The problem with this method was that you only ever had one take so that what was commited to tape when over-dubbing was there for good. I don't recall this bothering me too much at the time.
Listening back after all these years there are definitely a couple of tracks that I'd leave off now. In fact I would rather in some ways have buried them entirely rather than upload them here but in the interests of a genuine archival document heres the whole thing as it was released and I'm confident that the rest of the tracks make up for them.
