Fleeting is an album that kind of slipped through the cracks. I finished compiling it and managed to make only a few tape copies before I left Stradbroke Island (a small island off the coast of Brisbane in Australia where I'd lived the last year) for India. I made a few cdr copies sometime around 2005 but again never really got on top of promoting it.
Its very much in the same vein as Sirens- bedroom 4 track recordings- mainly song oriented with a few more sound art/experimental bits and bobs interspersed.
North Stradbroke Island is a beautiful place. It was very quiet (except on holiday weekends when it would fill up with holiday makers). I had several part time jobs working in kitchens but mostly had the days to myself. It was very warm all year round. I spent hours every day fishing, body surfing and recording.
At this stage of my life I was still utterly in thrall to a kind of mystical identification with landscape- with 'place'. I was particularly obsessed for a time with the idea that all of history- both past and future- could be read in the natural environment- ridgelines/waves/clouds if only one could open oneself enough to absorb it. Funnily enough this coincided with a parallel fascination with psychedelics and sophist philosophical thinking. I've never been entirely sure if I simply grew out of this or if my consequent pragmatism and 'relative' worldliness started the day I stopped exploring psychedelics...
