This is a straight field recording from the roof of our hospedaje in Cusco. There was a major protest happening in the Plaza de Armas about a change in the constitution of Peru enabling vast tracts of previously protected and indigenous controlled resources and lands to be sold off to foreign mining and drilling interests. These protests would ultimately bring the entire to a standstill and result a concurrent massacre of both protestors by police and army- and of police staff by indigenous activists.. At the time of this recording things were still relatively low key.
Not far from the plaza was a school where every evening brass band practice would occur at dusk. Simultaneously with these pratices the same scratchy old record would be played over a broken PA system- I have no idea why...
