about

Recorded in May 2010 'Letting Light' is a long EP of recordings that seek to investigate the resonant properties of acoustic string decay- in this instance guitar and piano. But thats not to say that this is some sort of dry electrocaoustic work; the pieces here whilst based on improvisations are melodic, 2 of them dense and shimmering and the rest sparse and gestural.
Perhaps my most nakedly hi-fi recordings to date I set out to record these instruments as warmly as I could and besides one 5 second burst of echo at one point and some layering on the tracks and backwards piano (... thats an effect as well I guess..) there are no electronic effects used at all.
Recorded during a period of intermittant hospitalisation for a disease I picked up in Sth America these pieces were attempts to let some light into the long winter I was experiencing.
I think I can safely say that this is the most 'beautiful' record I have ever made.
